Overlooking Matera’s Sasso Barisano, Fra I Sassi Residence is set in restored 17th-century buildings inside the Matera Sassi UNESCO site area. It offers a sun terrace and air-conditioned rooms with stone walls and views of the historical centre. Some rooms at the Sassi Residence are cut directly into the rock. All have a private bathroom and stone or parquet floors. A buffet breakfast is provided, including cappuccino or herbal tea, together with fruit and freshly made pastries. Free Wi-Fi access is available at reception. Matera Cathedral is 300 metres from the Fra I Sassi. A shuttle can be arranged from/to Bari Palese Airport, a 1-hour drive away. Guests can enjoy discounted rates at a nearby partner car park.

"We loved this hotel. Location was perfect with spectacular views, the room was lovely, large, comfortable and warm and breakfast was generous with lots of sweet and savoury options. The staff were excellent. Special thanks to Maria who was the most charming, delightful person for whom nothing was too much trouble. Thank you!"

"Amazing property and Rosita and Maria at the reception were very warm and helpful. The Suite we stayed was lovely and the bathtub was all what we needed after walking around so much to relax at night. The breakfast spread was also amazing and they served fresh orange juice. Loved the hospitality. Cheers"

"Although the breakfast had many choices, the quality did not match the quality of the facility. Had to share one glass for juice and water, never offered refill for coffee, eggs cold and hard. to me it would take only a little attention to make it quite satisfying."
